Catia Bastioli

Chief Executive Officer, Novamont

Catia Bastioli is a chemist, a researcher and an entrepreneur. She is CEO of the Novamont Group, an industrial reality born from the results of her research activity on the development of bioplastics and biochemicals from renewable origin, according to a model of Circular Bioeconomy that she developed, intended as territorial regeneration with the quality of soil and water at its centre. She is President of the Kyoto Club Association (since 2009) and of the Italian Cluster of Circular Bioeconomy SPRING (Since 2014). She has been a member of important EU working groups on climate change and the environment, such as the Mission Board on Soil Health and Food. First inventor of about 80 patent families in the sector of biopolymers and transformation processes of renewable raw materials, she was awarded “European Inventor of the Year 2007” by the European Patent Office and the European Commission. In 2017 she was given the honorary title of Knighthood “Cavaliere del Lavoro” by the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella. Moreover, she holds an Honorary Doctoral Degree in Civil, Chemical, Environmental and Materials Engineering by “Alma Mater Studiorum” University of Bologna (2019), a Honoris Causa Degree in Business Economics by University of Foggia (2018), a Honoris Causa Degree in Materials Engineering by University of Palermo (2016) and a Honoris Causa Degree in CBE JU Industrial Chemistry by University of Genoa (2008).
