Felipe Ortega Schlingmann is Head of the Bioeconomy Division within the Projects Directorate of the European Investment Bank. This BIOEC Division provides support to the operational units in the technical, economic, environmental and social due diligence of the investment proposals in agriculture, forestry and fishery and their relevant value chains. Based on the Bank`s priority lending objectives, it also defines the sectorial lending orientations and determines the financing eligibilities in the areas relevant for the Division which includes primary land-based sectors and protected areas.
Felipe Ortega, a Spanish and German national, studied Agricultural Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He holds a Ph.D. in Agronomy by the University of Bonn and an MBA by IESE-Universidad de Navarra. Before joining the EIB, Felipe Ortega worked for more than 15 years in several executive and managerial positions in agricultural, microbiological and chemical research, development and innovation both in the public and the private sector.
